"You have the Alliance's thanks, m'lord," Kurita said, standing and gripping Madigan's wrist firmly. Meanwhile, Demi-Precentor Moreau had shifted slightly, speaking quietly in his communicator in Midirsprache, informing his second on Septim as to their situation. The other two agents remained impassive. ---------- "Demi-Precentor Moreau reports favorable outcome, Herr Kap'tan," the comms officer reported to Captain Aldrich Kurita of U-012, presently below the waves, a silent and unseen escort for Septim. He smiled. "Ah, good. Pass on a message to Septim and pass on my best wishes to Ehren. All right, vector 115, let's head home." Unnoticed and never sensed, the Thera submarine turned and moved away, returning to the Federated Alliance.

Finally. Kurita relaxed a little as they finally reached the point of why he came. "To request your permission to establish an embassy here, in the interests of future relations, as well as to find if you would be amenable to a trade agreement. We were assisted through the end of one storm by a friend; we seek to do the same now." Presently, he and the DG agents with him were the only Midiren in the Empire, but if the request was granted, then the rest of his staff and attaches would arrive once he sent word - in fact, they were waiting for the word on HMS Uriel Septim, holding position off the coast. After all, efficiency was the Midiren watchword...

"There are myriad paths to a destination, countless solutions to a problem, legions of people in a world whose only true difference is in thinking. How you journey is unimportant, merely that you do." Kurita returned Madigan's smile with one of his own, an inscrutable expression that came naturally to him. "So the Way teaches, sir. It is not the Midiren way to hold you in contempt for what you use or believe. So long as you prove capable of taking on the challenges that life brings. "And all points of view have merit and sense, even if that merit and sense only exist at the time of creation. Were we so different long ago, sir?"

"I'm one of the Volpone Kuritas," he said as he seated himself across from Madigan. I have to admit, being a diplomat wasn't my first career choice. I served three tours in the Bundesheer, all with the Ryuken-roku." He smiled and shook his head with a chuckle, remembering the days. "My brother Aldrich is our foremost submarine captain, and he's still in the Navy." Kurita glanced at the mug, and said, "My apologies if I don't take a drink. I haven't touched a drop in my life and I'm not about to start now."

Kurita returned the salute with a bow of his own, while the three Diplomatic Guardsmen straightened to attention before falling into relaxed parade rest, unobtrusive. "On behalf of the Federated Alliance of Midiri, I greet you, Lord Madigan," Kurita said, his sharp Volpone accent lending an odd cadence to the formal greeting. "I am Ehren Kurita, Viscount Ortiz, chosen as ambassador by Chancellor Blake." He withdrew a white envelope and proffered it to Madigan. Within the envelope was a handwritten letter, penned by the Chancellor herself, in the short and to-the-point style that she was known for: Lord Josiah Madigan of the Harmune Empire, This letter serves to introduce The Viscount Ortiz, Ehren Kurita. He is a son of House Kurita of Dieron, and has been requested by myself to take up the duties of ambassador to your people from ours. His word is the Alliance's. Please grant to him the respect you would grant to any other ambassador. Pass through the storm in safety. Therese Kylara Blake Chancellor, Federated Alliance of Midiri

Ehren Kurita adjusted his tie, in the mannerism that had calmed him in countless meetings before today. Chancellor Blake had made a point of personally briefing outgoing ambassadors, and Ehren was no exception. He'd been told about the technological level this particular empire was in, but he had to admit, it was a bit jarring to be there in person, his Diplomatic Guard escorts' suits and concealed weapons a stark contrast to the swords and plate that their opposite numbers wore. Still, technology disparity aside, he would do as Chancellor Blake asked, and awaited his audience with Lord Madigan.

    OOC: From nothing they rose...

Would the Empire be averse to the Federated Alliance's request for an embassy and trade? It would be interesting to see the juxtaposition of swords and plate on one side and Diplomatic Guard's tailored suits and laser pistols...

Trouble in the city of Tulum

Clarissa didn't even spare the elf a sneer, merely turning away. A thought ran through her mind, though. What would you have done here, Father? She touched the medallion under her armor, suddenly feeling an odd ache in her heart.

Suffer not the honorless to live. Clarissa was half of the mind to force the issue, especially after what he'd said - first he'd advocated killing the halfling seeing as he was of no further use, then he said he was of more use alive than dead? There was inconstancy and simple idiocy if Clarissa had ever seen such a display - but she sheathed her sword anyway. "Tolerable. For the moment." She said to Aeduine.

Trouble in the city of Tulum

Innocentia nihil probat. Not even bothering to hide a sneer at the amateur move - not even an attempt to disarm or follow through! - Clarissa stepped backward once, falling into a standard opening stance, prepared to strike or deliver another spell. She'd already loosened her component pouch, though she doubted that this fool was worth Kelgore's Fire Bolt. "Or, we might consider the fact that you could be wrong and he is indeed telling the truth. But that is not the point being contested here, if you had the ears and the mind to listen. He has surrendered. You will not harm him." Her voice remained level, though something in her mind raged at her to simply strike and get rid of the elf before he did something more foolish in his arrogance.
