  2. Immigrant's Short Guide to Illumien Culture; posted two weeks ago, 90,000 likes. Greetings Comrades, As people applying for citizenship in any of the founding members of the glorious CoHRE, it will be necessary to be proficient to some reasonable degree in Illumien culture to fit in comfortably. Since it is they who have founded these two nations and provide a large section, around 73%, of the population, the culture around here is effectively their culture for the most part. Let's start with something somewhat light, just some fundamental reminders or fresh explanations as to where the culture comes from and why it is the way it is. Illumien Culture was born and is raised in an environment where the average person is emotionally dependent on the happiness of their own comrades, physically needed to sacrifice on a constant and massive scale, constantly needing to expand their numbers, and constantly needing to evolve to survive. This is a culture of we, not a culture of "I". The only time a single person can get as much attention as "we" is when that person is proclaimed to be "we" or "us" or "me". The reason Seth is such an all-consuming image of the culture is because people proclaim themselves to be him and him to be them, hence the expression "I am Seth". The history of Illumien culture is heavy rooted in the history of the nation known as Vadia, which has a long line of defensive wars requiring complete and total loyalty of all its people to the cause of defense. It's people quickly realized that any of them could die at any moment and that they preferred to be part of the undying "we", rather than the soon to die "I". On the same front, the culture needed to be constantly growing and constantly involving, which means lots of immigrants and births. It means the culture can't afford to turn its back on most of its population, to the degree that it would rather allow or accept or encourage practices it finds "weird" or "odd'", rather than risk losing potential workers, soldiers, artists, or so on. Then you have the fact that people who must be prepared to die at any time for a nation, want to be able to have a stake and some control over said nation. If a person must work long shifts or be fired upon by the enemy, they will naturally want the right to vote. If they must sacrifice for the nation, they must be the nation. So, ultimately the culture is socially very liberal and economically very liberal as well, but please do not be discouraged if you are conservative or moderate. The Illumien culture is a very fundamentalist culture, which despite being very spiritual, can be easily lived in if one values the rights and freedoms of those around them. Illumiens have no direct word from their "Enlightened One" how exactly the world came to be, so they can fundamentally accept science and champion it with ease. There is very little talk of many topics when it comes to said "god", only that they have encouraged the progress of the nation so far and have pushed the Illumiens to be humble, kind, and protective of others. Due to the need for defense, Illumiens are for the most part heavily armed at all times, as the threat of invasion was a constant worry and war was a constant nightmare civilians had to live in. This means many if not all citizens are carrying automatic weapons at all times, mostly military surplus service rifles. Despite the above, there are limits on the freedoms and rights of people, again to maintain unity. This is again because of the culture. Illumien Culture will not accept, or tolerate xenophobia. The reason why people speak in negative tones about "outsiders" and "them" is because said groups are xenophobia or self-absorbed. There is no point in being friendly to an outside culture, that if it took root in our nations, would be hostile to most of the culture already in our nations. There is no point to letting a culture that is hostile to our allies be in our nation either. It would be like inviting someone to the holiday dinner with family and comrades, that hates you, your family, and your comrades. This is why the Illumien culture is accused of being "populist idiot state" and also "a dictatorship". It's why it's called a "backward church state" and a "Satanist plague". The Illumien culture is a rainbow of ideas that all have been adopted around the world and argued reasonably well by at least someone. All ideas have some degree of benefits and weaknesses, which is why we seek to counter such things by adopting many ideas at once. So ultimately, we encourage you to stay and not only adopt our culture, but introduce us to your own. We are glad to have you and we hope your stay is very uplifting.
  3. What is this "Operation Hardcore" is it like a video game? It's a tabletop roleplaying game, think a normal roleplaying game, only it's played more like a board game, with more than one player, and I am stuck being the story-writer, programmer, and AI. In other words, the players play themselves, and I setup and handle every single other thing. So why should I care about this game? Because the players are either really good, really bad, and/or are really funny; due to the setup allowing them lots of freedom and allowing me to create vast worlds for them to run around in. On top of that, things go horribly wrong or right, people die, stuff explodes, and so on. Are you any good at giving after-action reports? No, I am a good story-writer though, and I recall most of what happens, but each week it fades a little more into memory. I hope to get better, because other people do after-action reports really well and people love them, I hope to make really good after-action reports someday too. What is the setting like? The setting needed to be a place that was close enough to apocalyptic to give players lots of freedom, challenge, and excitement; but also be in a wider world that is humming along reasonably well. I used to be friends with a user years ago, called 22nd Parallel; who had a bizarre nation that was built upon the ruins of another one. It's a wasteland with 40-60 foot black walls around it, with deep steel rods into the ground, and about a foot or meter concrete thickness in it. Inside is three mega cities and lots of zombies, so it's a really interesting setting. I took what he wrote down in resources, added to it and explained stuff, then started adding nations to be close by. Currently, there is "Mind-Walker" (Mind-Vah-ker) which is like Afganistan only half German and Half Russian, controlled by war-lords who rule over peasants, and locked in a civil-war more based upon race or power control than religion. Another nation in the setting is "Yeren" (Yeh-Ren), which is like India only slightly more modern. It's currently suffering from invasion, refugee migration, corruption, insurgencies, earthquakes, and droughts. What are the players like? Operator Hardcore had a main section, and then a series of expansions. One of the current players are from one called "Jaded Souls" which means they have a character flaw, some insanity, are morally grey people, are hiding in the country from whatever happened back home, and owed people serious money. The other three players are part of an expansion pack called "Long Live the Fighters". Long story short various political and religious groups are in the country fighting for freedom and ideals, they all are allies, and they all are being bankrolled by "The Benefactors". Players in that expansion are more or less freedom fighters or soldiers, with ideals, goals, and dreams. Currently, one of the previous Jaded players has been gone months, but the remaining one and said missing player already have corrupted to a degree two of the freedom fighters. A third one, who has a background as a spy, was sent in to be as a safeguard. This is to keep the party from getting into trouble and keep them on task taking care of "Traitors". I will detail the players and their characters, the last two adentures, and other stuff later. Thanks.

  5. What will you be doing about RP RP RP? Will Equilism be a made somewhat secure place for politically incorrect or disagreeable people? Will the Debate # be given more support? Will you be personally helping to setup a weekly regional podcast or movie watching event? What about cooperative or competitive videogame play?
  6. TOS: "Space Seed" We learn about what happened in the past, we get to meet and talk to the past, and it leaves the main crew still pondering what exactly is right and what exactly is wrong.
  7. I made a flash fiction set in the setting. It's rated PG-14, do not read if you can't play Call of Duty. Results are almost entirely rolled inside the setting. Meaning every outcome was from a dice-roll or character stats.

  10. If I had to name a region that has been a good place to talk about Sci-Fi, I would say Equilism. This region has been a huge help and I would love to give back to this region, so I am porting the setting to here as well. I will also be hosting any future games out of Equilism locations, to draw more attention to this region. Below is my standard FAQ, which I ported over. What kind of setting is it? The setting is the Greater NS FT community (Future Tech), around the year 2130 in the Beta Quadrant. According to the group canon, Beta had a lot of nations founded by players start there, but a lot of people quit so their nations descended into anarchy and economic collapse. New nations are starting off there and people are invested into the quadrant, so things are slowly getting better. Why was this setting picked? This campaign is set in a few dozen stars close to where my faction "Prole Confederation" is located. The players actions will affect the canon of me and a few others, while also being able to run around in an area full of lootable technology, unexplored stars, and reasonably tough but not too tough pirates. What role will the players be having? The players will be a group of human, human sub-races, experimental clones, or unhumans; who are experts or passengers on a small 50 crew ship. Forty of those people are the ship crew and/or research and/or business teams, ten will be security and medics. The objective partially to make money and partially to see the universe. Will this be like Star Trek? Yes and No. The players won't be the captain, or the lead of any of the departments, but they might be the co-captain, a commando, or specialist under the direction of the captain or a department leader. The players will likely be deployed as a team to fix issues on or around the ship, working with the security team, who have to protect the ship. In other words, powerful enough to get stuff done, not important enough to deploy for something dangerous. Will it be realistic? As much as it can be without getting too complicated. Will there be plot armor? Do you think we should take it away and hope you can keep yourself alive? It's really up to the players. Will this be close enough to 5.0 or D&D? As close as it can be, most of the stats will be the same, mostly just the weapons, armor, money, and stuff like that is different. Classes are a bit odd, but they are easy to setup. Is there a PDF for all of this? This is it. Map of Sector
